Our story

Incubated in the newsroom of
The Spinoff, one of Aotearoa’s most innovative media platforms.

In early 2022, Daylight merged with Translate Digital, an innovation and technology studio which has been building world class behaviour-changing digital products and services since 2016.

Today, we’re an independent technology and creative studio made of strategists, developers, animators, illustrators, writers, ad creatives, producers and project managers – residing in Morningside, Tāmaki Makaurau.

Working
with us_

We work best with partners who come to us with a desire to do something differently and who have a clear ambition to drive change and impact with their audiences.

Whether you’re a marketer, academic, start-up, government agency or somewhere in between, our collaborative and immersive approach means we’re able to work with anyone who shares our mindset, across multiple fields and industries.

Collaboration

We are a partner, not a vendor. We work collaboratively with you to unpack the problem and to define the best way forward.

01Energy

Built from the desire to do things differently, our team is energised and driven by trying new approaches to problems.

02Transparency

We value creating an open and transparent relationship. Together, we set project parameters, aligning on collective ambitions, scope and performance measures.

03Impact driven

Impact requires creating something memorable. We deliver intuitive experiences, stories that emotionally connect and ideas that make you think differently.

04Courageous

If you have a complex challenge, we love to tackle those head on – that might be problems people haven’t solved yet or conversations that are hard to have. We’re comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Immersive

We go deep, when learning about a new topic or field, we immerse ourselves, becoming familiar with as much content, data and insight as possible.

Forsite made the decision in late 2021 to move its development function offsite. After looking at several options we chose Daylight and we have never looked back.

The experience has been exceptional, and the team are awesome across the board. The big advantage for a small tech start-up like Forsite is that we get the benefit of a wide range of specialist skills, expertise and experience all bundled together within one cost for each project or piece of work. The flexibility to manage when we do work has made a real difference to both how we manage our cashflow, and how we deliver quickly on client or prospect needs.

Testimonials

Helen Flannery

Marketing Campaign Manager,
NZ Police

It’s refreshing and invigorating to work with an agency like Daylight who we’ve engaged to assist with several complex pieces of work. They’ve brought thoughtfulness and understanding to some of the challenges we face in marketing, followed up by intelligent and meaningful campaign creative. As a client I value their robustness of thinking, honesty in communication, commitment to the best outcome for you as a client and most importantly I enjoy the positive and trusting relationship that has been developed.

The Daylight team totally understood the brief, were excited about it and made it 100% better. They are smart, creative, hard working and get the complexities of business. The best of the best.
Diane Abad-Vergara

Communications Officer, World Health Organization

We’ve been so impressed by Daylight’s ability to distil complex science ideas and make them engaging and understandable. It’s been fantastic to see the team grow yet retain authenticity, a keen focus on customer service, professionalism and flexibility.

CEO, Pacific Media Network

There were four critical components that underpin our partnership with Daylight. Firstly Daylight has the capability and talent within the organisation to design and build complex digital projects. Secondly, they have a proven track record of operating at the leading edge in audience-centric content platforms. Thirdly, their cultural expertise across all facets sets them apart from others. And, finally our project was delivered on time and on budget with excellent communication throughout every step.
Kate Thomas

Spark Foundation Lead

We first approached the team at Daylight, with a challenge to bring the concept of digital equity to life. We wanted to use story-telling that would enable Kiwis to truly understand how digital exclusion can impact an individual’s future, and why digital equity is an issue we should all care about. The team at Daylight made the creative process so easy, and despite our constantly changing brief, and moving timelines, they worked collaboratively with us to co-create a video with a uniquely Kiwi design, that beautifully illustrates the importance of digital inclusion for a more equitable and connected Aotearoa.
